50Y Tribù - new offices & showroom
When Henri De Cock started his company in 1967, he probably never imagined that 50 years later Tribù would be one of the oldest fully family-owned manufacturers of high-end outdoor furniture. This milestone was the perfect occasion for the opening of a new office and 1000m² showroom in Bilzen in the northeast part of Belgium.
The mission for the architects was to create a timeless, concrete building with interiors that could compete with high-end private projects. Interior architect Marc Merckx and architect Nicolas Schuybroek created a linear, two level high geometrical building, stretching over 80m length, connected to the manufacturing plant. Their task was to provide a working place that would look like everything but a working place: natural light and warm interiors that would make everyone feel at home.
The offices on the ground floor are organised around a wide central circulation, dividing the open plan throughout the building. The warm, minimal interiors dominated by teak walls stand in strong contrast with the raw, textured concrete architecture defined by the rhythm of concrete columns on the ground floor.
On the first floor, meeting rooms and the 1000m² showroom space are organised in an open plan around the same central circulation as below. Natural light flooding through floor-to-ceiling windows with a view of the neighbouring forest creates the perfect ambience to show Tribù’s collections. Both building and its interiors are the ultimate reflections of Tribù’s design ethos of discreet luxury.
