Teak is a beautiful and long-lasting wood, which is stable and resistant to weather and water. The wood is high in natural oils, which leads to low moisture absorption and high stability. Additionally, the wood is resistant to fungi, parasites, and insects.

After 75 to 80 years, a tree has reached maturity. The trees have been ringed, eventually losing the majority of their sap and are felled and sawed up about two years later. Drying the wood is a critical step that determines how it will react later. Drying time and speed are determined by the thickness of the material to achieve the ideal moisture level between 8 and 12 percent.

Care and maintenance

Teak left in its natural can be left outside all year round, surviving even the most extreme weather conditions. Natural oil surfacing will appear as a "watermark" or irregular pattern of discoloration on new teak. These spots are a natural part of the maturing process and can be removed with a gentle wash with Teak Super Cleaner. Untreated teak furniture exposed to the sun and rain will eventually turn silver grey. This is a cosmetic process that has no effect on the strength or quality of the wood.

Teak Sealer contains UV protection to slow the greying caused by the sun, as well as a fungicide to prevent mold and mildew growth. If you apply Teak Sealer every season, a simple cleaning with water and a pH-neutral soap will suffice for years. Removing mold and mildew on the surface requires washing the furniture with bleach and soap followed by sanding.

Teak Protector protects the wood from stains and green deposits without discolouring it. It is best to use it after each cleaning. It is not recommended to use varnish or oil (especially linseed oil) on teak furniture. Varnish and polyurethane may peel and chip, requiring vigorous sanding to remove.
